Irish Person of the year, Mimi Foley- 1994

Mimi and her family came to Dallas from Pittsburgh, PA, in 1974 and immediately started to look for Irish connections. She heard about an organizing meeting to sponsor an Irish dance for St. Patrick's Day in 1975. She attended the meeting and with that started her long association with the Irish community in Dallas. From the beginning, Mimi volunteered to help with anything that needed to be done. Over the years, she has served and chaired numerous fund raising, social and cultural events from picnics to the Annual Dance. In 1981-82 she served as president of the Club, then known as the Friendly Sons and Daughters of St. Patrick. Every year, she has volunteered to work at the Irish Fest in Fair Park. Mimi has also been active in the greater Dallas community. She was a founding member of All Saints Catholic Community where she chaired the Social Concern, Liturgy, the Women's Organization and Outreach. She has also served the Council of Catholic Women and the Deanery and Diocesan levels as President. In 1992, she received the Marjorie M. Barry Award for her community service and dedication to Catholic Womanhood. You can find Mimi at the Irish American Society booth in the Cultural Arts Bui8lding. Stop by and say "hello" to her. She will also be present at the Irish American Society's annual dinner dance on March 12, at Chaparral Club and at the Downtown Saint Patrick's Day Parade on March 13.
